New Year’s Resolutions – How to Strengthen Your Body and Your Resolve
New Year’s Day is coming fast. The end of a calendar year and the beginning of a new one is often a time of reflection and planning. We look at what we’ve accomplished and what we would like to accomplish in the next revolution around the sun. If you’re like us, a goal you may have is better health and fitness.
Taking martial arts classes – whether in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kung Fu, Karate, Capoeira, or Krav Maga – can and will help you on multiple levels in achieving your goal and keeping your new year’s resolution of better health and getting in shape.
First, let’s look at the health benefits of training in, say, Kung Fu. One translation of Kung Fu is “hard work.” By repetitiously stretching and drilling in punches, kicks, blocks, and forms, you are working your muscles using both dynamic and static tension. This builds muscle and improves strength over time. As the muscles warm, they stretch, lending to better and greater flexibility. Your cardiovascular system will benefit from your training as well! Pretty straight-forward, right? Continue reading – it gets better.
The second way that enrolling in martial arts classes helps you stay strong and keep your fitness resolution is through your natural psychology! There is strength in numbers and humans are statistically more likely to stick with something when we do it in groups. Additionally, martial arts classes are a great place to meet new friends who have similar interests and care about themselves. When you have created bonds with classmates, you are even more likely to keep your resolution for the sheer fact that you now have more reasons to come to class. As you reach milestones in your training, the accomplishment and improvements you will see in yourself will be more than enough to carry you to and beyond your health and fitness goals.
The staff at Plus One Defense Systems would like to wish you a happy, safe, and joyful New Year! We encourage you to share this post with friends and family who may benefit from have a team of support helping them achieve their health and fitness goals through the martial arts.
