At Plus One, we teach a multitude of martial arts because different styles are appropriate at different times when it comes to self defense. We encourage students to train in multiple martial arts because

  • each martial art is distinctive and interesting;
  • we want our members to explore different styles and find what works for them;
  • your membership entitles you to train in as many styles as you want for the same price!

To be clear: we are not training UFC fighters. Training for extreme sport fighting has a different set of strategies that are not in line with our core principle that martial arts are for self defense, fitness, and health.

We have many female practitioners who love this martial art for the intense, total body workout. Grappling effectively requires strength but this particular art is also about submission tactics; these tactics can and will work against anyone. Therefore, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a perfect component to add to your arsenal to even the playing field!

We offer both Womens-Only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes AND Co-Ed BJJ Classes. In fact, we were the first academy in CT to offer a womens-only BJJ class.
