Self Defense Classes for Kids near Hartford, CT
Children should know how to defend themselves properly when a situation demands it. Our martial arts academy in West Hartford is centrally located and serves the greater Hartford community. Our system teaches kids an effective means of self defense. This includes the mental aspects which involve awareness, ethical behavior, knowing when to walk away, and knowing when and how to stand their ground against bullies.
When should kids begin learning martial arts?
Kids are especially adept at learning martial arts and self defense. They can begin as early as age 5 at our academy. Just like learning a new language or skills in a sport, they absorb important self defense concepts quickly and are able to incorporate them into their daily lives intuitively. At a very young age, kids may be exposed to peer pressure, taunting, and other forms of bullying. To counter this, Plus One Defense Systems offers an environment of encouragement, positivity, and safe self defense methods which they will carry with them into adulthood. We are a team and a family, and we’re right in your neighborhood if you live in the greater Hartford, CT area.
First Understand Peace
We teach a primary system of martial arts that translates to “first understand peace.” We teach Karate, Kung-Fu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) classes to children. We don’t teach kids to fight. We teach them how to protect themselves, how to avoid fighting, and we teach martial arts as a physical activity and sport. We spend time in class every day working on character development through a structured character development curriculum, discussing issues that kids face, and how to deal with those issues in a nonviolent manner.
