Training in Multiple Styles – Benefits for Children

In school, children often take a variety of classes including math, science, history, art/music, and social studies. This approach offers a foundation of knowledge that relates. Children benefit from having a well-rounded education covering many disciplines. Ultimately, as they enter adulthood, they may begin to specialize in certain fields of interest and probably go into a profession where their unique combination of skill and knowledge is beneficial to their company, their family, and the world at large.

When we consider enrolling our kids in martial arts, it’s important to note that each style is akin to a discipline in school. Even if you feel that it’s best to choose one martial art for the child to study at any given time, it makes sense to choose a martial arts academy that has some degree of variety and choice of styles. Obviously it’s also important, just like when choosing a school or college, to review the academy history, quality of education, quality of instruction, and so on. Plus One Defense Systems is an academy that seeks to excel in all aspects of instruction, variety of offerings, and facilities. We condone and recommend that kids try multiple martial arts – in fact, their membership entitles them to take multiple styles without adding any cost.

So if your child is wondering if they should take kung-fu or kickboxing, our answer is: take both! In addition to Kung Fu and Muay Thai Kickboxing classes, we also offer Kenpo Karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu youth programs. Check out our class schedule to see the many classes throughout the week that your child can take.

When kids take multiple styles of martial arts, they benefit in a number of ways. Children who train in multiple styles:

  1. Stay engaged because each style offers a slightly different approach to training and emphasis on how to move and use their body to defend.
  2. Exercise differently in each class. Kickboxing, for example, is great for upright sparring. BJJ is great to learn close-combat, ground control, and submission tactics.
  3. Are more prepared for a variety of self-defense situations.

For a consultation or to enroll your child in a free class at our martial arts academy, simply fill out a registration form. We look forward to training with you!
